Honokaa School District receives $1 million dollar grant
The grant was recently awarded all the schools in the Honokaa complex. The funds will be dispensed over four years to develop and implement programs for Honokaa High and Intermediate, Paauilo Elementary and Intermediate, and Waimea Middle and Elementary. The grant provides after-school, summer school, and enrichment programs to improve academic achievement and student motivation.
The proposal was written with a pre-K through twelfth-grade alignment and a STEM focus in mind. The plan, created by Program Director Angela Thomas with Baby STEPS to Stronger Big Island Families, was written to help improve reading scores by third grade. The new funding will sustain some work started from an initial grant.
