Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation event salutes firefighters on Sept. 5

Tickets are now on sale for the 18th annual Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Annual Awards Dinner and Fundraiser at The Fairmont Orchid on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation was created 18 years ago after Frank and Laura Sayre lost their son in a hiking accident. It was founded to honor the dedication of Hawaii Island fire/rescue workers and to help purchase essential rescue equipment. Proceeds from the dinner and fundraiser will be used to purchase needed equipment for the County of Hawaii Fire & Rescue Department.
Over the years, the event has raised more than $1 million dollars to support Hawaii Island’s fire/rescue and emergency response teams.
Hawaii County Fire Department personnel honored this year for their meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty are Captain Michael Andrade, Captain Charles Spain, Fire Equipment Operator David Mahon, Fires Rescue Specialist Dustin Frechette, Fire Rescue Specialist Riley Young, Fire Rescue Specialist Lyle Tamaribuchi, Fire Rescue Specialist Carl Pires, Fire Fighter Yurik Resetnikov, Fire Fighter Tay Soares, Water Safety Officer Jason Nixon, Fire Medical Specialist 2 Bertram Carvalho Jr., Fire Equipment Operator Donald Awa, Fire Battalion Chief Michael Hayashida and Fire Inspector Palani Kurashige.
The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Annual Awards Dinner and Fundraiser begins at 4:30 p.m. with the opening of a silent auction. The evening also includes dinner, a live auction, and dancing to the live dance band Vizion 20/20. The buffet dinner is $109 per person, including tax and tip. Patrons may also choose to sponsor a dinner for a firefighter and/or spouse at a cost of $99 all inclusive, per person. Registration is available online at www.DanielSayreFoundation.org.
