THE FRIENDS OF THELMA PARKER MEMORIAL LIBRARY (FOTPL) GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: 3:30 p.m., Thursday, July 16, library conference room. The public is invited to attend the annual meeting. Refreshments will be served. Officers for the FOTPL board are elected, reports made available, and volunteers recognized for their service to the library. The current officers are President Libby Dingeldein, Vice President Alice Jenkins, Secretary Arlene Block, and Treasurer Sonja Walawender. While members of the executive board are willing to continue in their respective positions, interested parties can run for office and nominations are accepted from the floor.

THIRD THURSDAY THRIVE: 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 16, North Hawaii Education and Research Center (NHERC) in Honokaa. The grassroots community potluck supports sustainability and expands connections within the Hamakua community. All are welcome. GARY WASHBURN, IGGY JANG & FRIENDS PERFORM AT THE PEOPLE’S THEATRE: 7 p.m., Thursday, July 16, Honokaa People’s Theatre. The String Program of the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (HPAF) makes a long-awaited return to the theater, showcasing string quartets and soloists with orchestral accompaniment, performing favorite selections. Highlighting the evening is HPAF’s yearly anticipated collaboration with Grammy winner Gary Washburn and his jazz band. General admission is $20 per person, or $15 for seniors and students, at the door. Tickets are available online at http://www.hawaiiperformingartsfestival.org/events/.

SOUTH KOHALA CDP ACTION COMMITTEE MEETING: 5 p.m., Monday, July 27, Waikoloa Village Association Conference Room. The meeting is open to the public.
