Academy Swim Club competes at the state championships

Academy Swim Club (ASC) competed in the 2015 Hawaiian Swimming Long Course Championships July 16 through 19 at Veterans Memorial Park on Oahu. Leading the team was Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) sophomore Karly Noetzel, who came in fifth in the 100 Freestyle, and fourth in the 50 Freestyle — which qualified her for USA Swimming’s Senior Sectional level of competition.
The 15/16 Girls 200 Freestyle Relay of Noetzel, Taylor Doherty, Kira Parker and Janelle Laros earned a Bronze Medal on the final day of the competition.
Others on ASC’s state team were Waimea Middle School student Koa Miche, Parker School student Kai Griley, and HPA students Kaden Parker, Matt Ostrem, Michael Duggan and Kyra Hartley.
Noetzel also competed as an individual medalist in 15/16 Girls and came in fifth in the 100 Freestyle and fourth in the 50 Freestyle races. Griley swam in the 11/12 Boys and came in fifth in the 200 Butter Fly. HPA student Taylor Doherty came in seventh in the 15/16 200 Freestyle.
Enrollment for the Academy Swim Club fall season, Aug. through Dec., is open after Aug. 1 for new members at academyswimhawaii.org. Returning members can renew membership between now and Aug. 1.
